Program Overview
About this program
The Doctor of Ministry in worship leadership is for those leading teams, resolving conflict and sustaining volunteers. Half of worship leadership is not musical: it is recruiting volunteers, running rehearsals, resolving style conflicts that are never really about style, and keeping people serving for years without burning them out. This ICAS-accredited Kingdom of Life University pathway is about that half, together with the formation of musicians whose skill often outpaces their maturity.
Competency-Based Ministry Assessment
Recognition of demonstrated learning in theology and ministry
Experienced ministry practitioners demonstrate competencies developed through years of service, theological study, and continuing learning. The assessment connects that learning with the published outcomes of the Doctor of Ministry in Worship Leadership through biblical understanding, theological reflection, research, and ministry judgment.

Major Subject Areas
The fourteen subjects you study, and the ones the ministry assessment draws on
Foundational and Major-Core Subjects
Four foundations every pathway shares, then four that belong to this field.
Doctoral Seminar: Biblical Interpretation
Leading a team into the text, since a worship team's theology is formed in rehearsal more than in the service.
Doctoral Seminar: Old Testament Theology
The Old Testament's musicians and their guilds, and the surprising amount the text says about who was appointed to sing.
Doctoral Seminar: New Testament Theology
The New Testament on singing, mutual teaching and order in the assembly.
Doctoral Seminar: Christian Doctrine
The doctrine that repertoire teaches, which over a decade shapes a congregation more than the sermons do.
Doctoral Seminar: Leading Worship Teams
Leading worship teams, covering recruitment, role clarity, rehearsal discipline, and the difference between a team and a roster.
Doctoral Seminar: Forming Musicians as Disciples
Forming musicians as disciples, covering the spiritual formation of people whose skill can outpace their maturity.
Doctoral Seminar: Repertoire and Congregational Song
Repertoire and congregational song, covering selection criteria, introduction of new material, and the pace a congregation can absorb.
Doctoral Seminar: Conflict Over Musical Style
Conflict over musical style, covering its real underlying causes, mediation, and the decisions that determine whether it is survivable.
Specialization Subjects
Six more that take the field into the places it actually gets used.
Doctoral Seminar: Rehearsal, Planning, and Rhythm
Rehearsal, planning, and rhythm, covering the weekly cycle, lead times, and the sustainability of the whole operation.
Doctoral Seminar: Volunteer Endurance and Rest
Volunteer endurance and rest, covering rota design, burnout, sabbatical, and the depth of bench a ministry actually needs.
Doctoral Seminar: Mentoring Younger Worship Leaders
Mentoring younger worship leaders, covering developmental sequence, feedback, and handing over responsibility.
Doctoral Seminar: Doctoral Worship Leadership Project
The doctoral worship leadership project, covering design, intervention, evaluation, and the written argument.
Doctoral Seminar: Spiritual Formation and Christian Vocation
The formation of musicians as disciples, and the leader's own worship when it has become a weekly deliverable.
